“The ALSapalooza Music Festival is put together to raise
ALS awareness and funds for The ALS Association - North Carolina Chapter,” said
Mary Luper, an ALS patient who organized the event. “It includes three live
bands, a corn hole tournament, food trucks, wine and beer, as well as vendor
booths with handmade crafts. It is also kid and dog (leashed) friendly. Join us
for the best party of the year!” The cost of admission is a suggested $10 minimum donation.
ALS, often referred to
as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease,” is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that
affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. The disease robs people
of the ability to walk, talk, eat, and eventually breathe. It traps them inside
a body they no longer can control. ALS is a
disease that is 100% fatal and usually strikes people between the ages of 40
and 70. Approximately 20,000 Americans can have the disease at any given time.Money raised at ALSapalooza will benefit The ALS Association North Carolina Chapter, which focuses on finding cures and treatments for the disease through global research and advocacy as well as helping people living with ALS in North Carolina and their families. The North Carolina Chapter serves nearly 800 people living with ALS in North Carolina each year by supporting all of the state’s multidisciplinary ALS clinics, providing financial assistance to people living with ALS and operating support groups and a medical equipment loan program.
Graymatter is proud to
be participating in this event and will be playing in honor of Dave’s aunt,
Jane Jansen, who had ALS and passed away in 2014.
This will be a really
